May 2014 Newsletter

Dear Readers,

Flowers are in bloom, giving off their unique fragrances. The new leaves on the trees blow in the wind freely, dancing and sharing shade on a sunny day. New life is everywhere we look!  We see women in different stages of pregnancy with promise of birthing purpose, and mothers pushing newborns in strollers as proof of the newness of life.  No matter the instance, a seed was planted; whether it was to duplicate who or what they were, or to start anew…the seed was planted.

So as it is with many of us, we may have planted seeds that seemed to have fallen to the wayside or went into the ground and died; yet, we do not have any evidence of it being planted.  Did you know that when a seed is planted it is dormant?  Although that seed is inactive, there is yet a little life in the center of it, but it has to be nurtured in order to begin growing into what it is created to be.

When spring has fully come into our lives, we will begin to see the manifestation of the seeds that have been planted – the purpose that God has placed in us, and we see with our own eyes that our labor has not been in vain. It is at that moment that we can continue to cultivate our gifts, as they take root, in order to push through to the surface…some in this season and some in others; some needing more nurturing than others, yet all being a blessing to so many.

Let us also remember to honor and celebrate our mothers, grandmothers, aunties and those women who have taken on the role of mother in a child’s life. You are awesome and we appreciate you!

Life was just as normal for Carmen O'Malley as it was for anyone, until the tender age of eight when her eyes were suddenly opened to the fact that her father was white and she was not. From that moment forward, she spent her life trying to fit in. Carmen loved both sides of her family, and embraced the cultural differences between the two, but she always felt like the black sheep. Eventually, she started to blame her biracial makeup for the silent torment she experienced as a result. After a lifelong battle to discover the meaning of her existence, Carmen's life takes a pivotal turn when she follows her best friend's advice to seek professional help for what has been eating away at her core for most of her life. Little does she know, her answers lie in the most unexpected places. Carmen's is the story of a young woman's struggle to find her identity and purpose, and her persistent search along the way for love and acceptance from her own people.

Jerusalem "Jay" Jones has experienced the uglier side of life. As an Iraq war Veteran, he is a hero for bravely putting his life on the line to serve his country. But that unselfish act resulted in him lying in a Veteran’s hospital with injuries he sustained from the war. His present circumstance should be a cakewalk for Jerusalem considering what he has wit- nessed both as a child and while in the heat of battle. The pleasantries of love, laughter and life have always seemed to elude him. From his early days as a child growing up abused and terrorized on the tough streets of Newark, to being all that he could be in the military, Jerusalem’s life has been anything but pleasant and attractive when viewed from the surface. Now, vulnerable and reclusive, he must face the world he joined the military to escape, armed with only dark secrets from his past, a bruised and burdened psyche and limits to him physically.

Jill Lopes longs to fix the wounded and broken, but before she can heal the sick, she must first mend her own battle scars of unhappiness and resistance, and find a way to push past the experiences that haunt her. When fate boldly steps in and introduces itself into Jerusalem's and Jill's lives, they realize that the challenges we meet in life hold the power to open us to a higher, more meaningful existence. Will they both be able to view the world for what it really is under the clear truth of who they are and what they are capable of becoming together? Does beauty really lie in the eye of the beholder?

Experience the power of love on this redemptive journey where the purpose of the tribulations in one's life, will be empowered to reveal the gifts they bring.

Coming June 2014

Change Me For My Season presents life-changing events that shake Tonya, Denise and Lisa to the core of their beings. The three friends have gone through seasons of life together since childhood, and now that they are older, understanding of how precious life is and how quickly it can be taken or given is sobering. Divorce, pregnancy and death are the things the ladies have to come to terms with while raising their own children to adulthood...but will they be able to wrap their hearts and minds around the life-altering events of their lives?

There are natural seasons in life that may remain intact for predictable and expected periods of time, but we cannot expect the same of God’s seasons in our lives.

The woman you love to hate is back once again with even more drama than ever before.

In a quest to start a new life Denise makes the decision to move to Florida and while in route she meets world renowned televangelist Donovan Rodgers and her life changes forever. Finally she feels like she has found the man of her dreams. But not everyone seems to be on board with their whirlwind romance especially not Donovan’s assistant Malcolm. After Denise says “I do” she realizes the person she thought she married and the person she is actually married to are two different people.

Randy has finally decided to move on with his life and date his ex-girlfriend from the past Alexis. For once in his life he feels like he is in absolute paradise. Things start to get a little sticky however when Alexis ex-boyfriend Teddy emerges out of the middle of nowhere.

Terri and Carlos are enjoying their lives as newlyweds but the honeymoon soon ends when Carlos daughter Lily comes to stay with them for the summer.

Secrets, lies, and double lives all collide in this explosive tale. You think you really know someone but you have no idea...

The Letters is a profound love story.

Some never find true love, but Marie and Edward found each other. Marie struggles with memories of their life together as she begins to read letters discovered in a trunk in their attic. The letters were all addressed to her—all from Edward. As she reads through each one, she is transported back in time to their first years together and many years after. A heart warming story meant to be read over tea by the fire, The Letters reminds us that deep abiding love is possible and can stay with us for the rest of our lives.

Lover's of themselves, lovers of money, unthankful, despisers of God, haughty, loving pleasure more than God, sound familiar? Well, words were actually written by the Apostle Paul thousands of years ago, yet, they could easily have been written yesterday. Messages strewn across pulpits Sunday after Sunday have become little more than self help lessons, anemic in their ability to transfuse power into the souls of the people. Souls left empty, hungry for more, unnourished because what they really seek is the bread of life, the truth of God's word.

Christianity and the "church" have been corrupted by religious mindsets and ideas that have compromised our understanding of true Kingdom living. Subsequently, the enemy is succeeding in draining the strength and power out of the church. Our influence is slowly slipping away while we focus most of our time on our rules, regulations and traditions.

“Killing Religion” is a hard hitting, thought provoking assessment on the current state of religion and the church today. It’s a battle cry to rethink how we do church; membership or discipleship, Christ or Christianity, religion or relationship? Cheryl Lacey Donovan will challenge every believer to move from a mere knowledge of God to a personal experience with God.

(Regarding "Lord, Deliver Me From Church Folks") MY PERSONAL BOOK OF THE YEAR! If you aren't a lover of the truth, the information in this book will give you serious brain damage. Laid out in a simple and straightforward format, this book is a must read for anyone who calls himself a Christian. Enough said!

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, working with and listening to Brian Ganges speak. His simple, yet powerful message empowers individuals in the framework of liberty, and seeing one another as individuals, not as groups. As a country, we are divided by race, ethnicity, religion, locale, gender, socio-economic status, and political affiliation. Brian’s message transcends the barriers that divide us; and it brings hope of uniting all people of all races. Anyone would benefit from hearing his message and/or have him speak at their event.
